Position Title: Substitute Teacher                                            

 

Term of Employment: On-Call, As Needed; no benefits

Pay Information:  Certified - $115.00 per day

                              Non-Certified - $89.00 per day

General Statement of Job

In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, a substitute will help students learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms. Hours and days are as needed and will vary. Stanly County Schools does not guarantee a minimum or maximum number of work days or hours for substitutes.

Essential Job Functions

  • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
  • Maintains, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and  classroom where assigned.
  • Assumes the responsibilities for instructing classes when a teacher is absent.
  • Assumes other responsibilities for that teacher during the time the teacher is absent.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class, during lunch, and other activities.
  • Follows all district and individual school policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject.
  • Performs other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned by the School Administrator.

  • Good classroom management / discipline skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to administer teacher lesson plans.
  • Ability to ensure a safe and healthful environment.
  • Ability to assist students with understanding of rules and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and neatness.
  • Ability to maintain proper professional conduct.
  • Ability to keep in confidence all personal, student or personnel records and  information.

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Certified Substitutes must hold a valid NC teaching license
  • Non-Certified Substitutes must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and must have completed Effective Teacher Training per SCS Board of Education Policy.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Physical Requirements: 


  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
  • Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
  •  Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
